Our Boston Vacation Trip

We try to do a Boston day during each vacation, especially since we haven't been able to afford more extensive vacations the last few years. We are members of the Boston Museum of Science and have been enjoying seeing the museum a little piece at a time.  The nice thing about membership is that we haven't felt like we have to see everything in one day. The kids just only seem to be able to absorb so much at once and because we belong, we know we can come back.
Mommy loves the diaramas and Phoebe loves animals.  Perfect.

Our trip always involves a walk to the North End for pizza and pasteries at the fomous Mike's Pasteries.  On this day, we packed our lunch instead but still walked to the North End for pasteries.  Yum!

I couldn't resist snapping a few pictures of the beautiful old buildings.

Yum, Mike's.  I love everything about it.  I love waiting in line.  I love the boxes.  I love the bakery twine that hangs from the ceilings and ties up those boxes.  I love the canolis.

It was a gorgeous day with budding flowers and sunny skies.

The musical stairs at the Boston Musuem of Science.

The thing about an exciting Boston day is that it tends to wear everyone out.  We had a sleepy car on the way home.

Spring Vacation

We are officially on spring vacation.  We are going to be doing some fun stuff around here- Easter, going to Boston, and the big CKC (Creating Keepsakes Convention) is coming to Manchester, NH at the end of the week.  The scrapbook gals and I signed up for classes months ago and we are ready. The whole family is feeling the need to completely relax and watch the flowers bloom and the leaves emerge.  It feels like it's been a long winter around here.

NH Literacy Day

We had the best time at the NH Literacy Day, as we have for the last 4 years.  It's a day where kids get to walk around a local high school and collect books in a room.  Each room is sponsored by an organization or business and also has something to draw kids in like animals, or legos, or the local weatherman.  They also have free food, a firetruck, and a racecar.  This is really the best thing going.  The only negative is that it is PACKED because everyone in the local area has realized how incredible this event is.  I think I took over 30 pictures so here is a collage of our morning ( I limited my sharing to 15):
From left to right, top to bottom 1. Phoebe and El meet the big turtle 2. and pat it.  3. The hedgehog 4. the owl 5. a book about Volcanoes- El is in heaven (and signed by local weatheraman) 6. This is what it would look like if we homeschooled El and Phe (ha, ha) 7. El wanted a picture with the shark 8. and the lobster.  Phoebe was scared out of her mind by the people in costumes. 9. Another science lesson on hawks. 10. Which book do I choose?  11. An owl feather  12. El as a fireman  13. The racecar  14. Phoebe was decked out in her new strawberry dress (she got lots of attention for it and was happy as a clam). 15. El and Phe in the ambulance.

And this is only a fraction of what we did.  SO MUCH FUN!

Elliot is Learning to Write

To Do:
Soccer
Grocery Shop
Game Day
Sort Crafts     Card
Take Walk

Clean Up

So on Saturday (after the freak April 1st snow day), we decided to have a family meeting about what we should do with the weekend.  We had Elliot write down our list.  It was the first time that we didn't spell out any words for him or write them somewhere else for him to copy.  He sounded them out as best he could.  He got the sounds pretty much correct.  It definitely warms a Mommy's heart to see it.  I couldn't help but fear that he would never learn to write.  The boy is a lefty and has resisted even holding a pencil for the longest time.  But suddenly, he is figuring it out.  Thank goodness.  We thank every day that we had the good sense to delay kindergarten for that extra year.  What a gift for him to have that extra time.

Here is El's maze through the Easter eggs.  We are gearing up for Easter around here and after his smashing success with the to do list, he picked up his journal and got going.  Really, pretty soon this guy is going to be reading (more than easy readers) and writing up a storm.  We are so proud.
