Dancin' and Thinkin'

In my class today, the students shared their Harlem Renaissance Research Projects. I am just amazed and inspired by the artists of this time period. I got kinda choked up watching a 98 year old Eubie Blake play the piano. And watching Josephine Baker do the banana dance, made me think that maybe she was the Madonna of her time. They said that Bessie Smith was hypnotizing, and Ella Fitzerald performed for 58 years. 58 years! That's a LONG time! One of my students showed the video above in class and all of my sophomores began to appreciate, really appreciate how amazing some of these people were.

Sometimes, I have a not to great teaching day and I talk too much. Today was ok.
